Job Profile
The Tax Accountant is responsible for delivering high-quality, timely, and cost-effective taxation and accounting services to clients. This role emphasizes technical expertise in Australian tax compliance, strong client relationship management, and leadership capabilities. The position also involves mentoring junior staff and continuously identifying opportunities to add value to both clients and the organization.
Responsibilities
- Prepare financial statements for Trusts, Companies, SMSFs and Partnerships.
- Prepare tax returns for Trusts, Companies, Sole Traders, Partnerships and Individuals.
- Prepare and assist with:
- Interim income tax returns
- Business Activity Statements (BAS)
- Instalment Activity Statements (IAS)
- Payroll Tax returns
- Fringe Benefits Tax (FBT) returns
- Circulating CGT and Div 7A and providing valuable advice to clients.
- Ensure compliance with Australian taxation requirements (PAYG, GST, Superannuation, Workcover, Centrelink)
- Assist clients with tax and regulatory compliance matters
- Bookkeeping & Payroll
- Process accounts payable and receivable
- Perform bank reconciliations and maintain accurate accounting records
- Ensure payroll is processed accurately and on time
- Support day-to-day bookkeeping and accounting activities
- Generate and post journal entries and review general ledger accounts
- Prepare management reports and intercompany loan reconciliations
- Client Relationship Management
- Establish and maintain strong client relationships
- Review and discuss financial statements and tax outcomes with clients
- Provide proactive tax planning advice and value-added insights
- Administrative & Statutory Functions
- Maintain electronic filing of client records
- Prepare statutory documents for companies and trusts
- Maintain share registers, minute books, and statutory records
- Leadership & Team Support
- Provide training, guidance, and support to junior staff
- Assist managers with technical and taxation-related matters
- Promote team development and knowledge sharing
- Qualifications & Experience
- Professional qualification in Accounting and Finance (CIMA/ACCA, CPA, Chartered Accountant)
- Degree or Bachelor of Business majoring in accounting or equivalent.
- Familiarity working with accounting software packages like XERO, MYOB, QuickBooks and Australian Taxation Systems.
- Thorough knowledge of accounting and corporate finance principles and procedures.
- Minimum 4 - 5 years of experience in the accounting industry
- Minimum 2-3 years Australian Accounting experience is mandatory
