Key Responsibilities:
Accounts Receivable (AR)
• Raise and issue sales invoices to customers accurately and on time
• Monitor debtor ledgers and follow up on outstanding payments via email and phone
• Apply and reconcile customer receipts against invoices
• Maintain customer records and credit terms within the accounting system
• Produce weekly AR aging reports and flag overdue accounts to management
Accounts Payable (AP)
• Process supplier invoices, verify against purchase orders or approvals, and code to correct accounts
• Schedule and prepare payment runs in accordance with supplier terms
• Reconcile supplier statements and resolve invoice discrepancies promptly
• Maintain an up-to-date creditor ledger and manage vendor relationships
• Ensure all payments comply with the company’s approval workflow
Bookkeeping & General Ledger
• Maintain accurate and up-to-date books using MYOB and Xero
• Perform daily/weekly bank reconciliations across all business accounts
• Post and reconcile journal entries including accruals, prepayments, and adjustments
• Manage the chart of accounts and ensure consistent, correct transaction coding
• Maintain fixed asset register and process depreciation entries
• Ensure the integrity of financial data ahead of monthly close processes
Financial Reporting – P&L and Balance Sheet
• Prepare monthly Profit & Loss statements with variance commentary versus budget and prior periods
• Produce accurate monthly Balance Sheet reconciliations for all key accounts
• Compile management reporting packs for presentation to the business owner
• Support the external accountant / tax agent with year-end workpapers and schedules
• Assist in preparing annual budgets and rolling financial forecasts
• Identify and escalate any financial anomalies, risks, or trends to management
Payroll
• Process end-to-end Australian payroll in compliance with the Fair Work Act and applicable Modern Awards
• Calculate wages, salaries, overtime, leave entitlements, and termination payments
• Administer Superannuation Guarantee (SG) contributions and lodge via SuperStream on time
• Manage Single Touch Payroll (STP) reporting via the ATO-compliant payroll platform
• Maintain employee records including tax file number (TFN) declarations and tax withholding settings
• Manage PAYG withholding obligations and ensure correct remittance to the ATO
• Process annual payment summaries / income statements via STP finalisation
• Handle employee payroll queries promptly and maintain strict confidentiality
Skills, Qualifications & Experience:
Essential
• CPA, CA, or ACCA qualification (full or partial) – mandatory
• Diploma or Degree in Accounting, Finance, or related discipline
• Minimum 3–5 years’ hands-on experience in a similar finance generalist or bookkeeping role
• Demonstrated experience with Australian accounting, payroll, and tax compliance requirements
• High proficiency in written and spoken English – essential for daily communication with Australian stakeholders
• Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite – Excel, Word, Outlook, and Teams
• Proficiency in both MYOB and Xero accounting platforms (mandatory)
• Solid understanding of GST, BAS, STP, and Superannuation obligations
• High attention to detail and strong numerical accuracy
Compliance & Taxation Support:
• Prepare and lodge monthly/quarterly Business Activity Statements (BAS) including GST, PAYG withholding, and PAYG instalments via the ATO Business Portal or through the tax agent
• Assist with Instalment Activity Statements (IAS) as required
• Maintain compliance with Australian GST, FBT, and other relevant tax obligations
• Liaise with the external accountant, tax agent, and ATO as needed
• Maintain an organised filing system for all financial documents (digital and/or physical)
Desirable
• Experience working remotely for Australian businesses from an offshore location
• Exposure to Australian payroll software such as KeyPay, Employment Hero, or similar
